Did you know that your Brain Color tone can throw people off guard?

I was speaking with a business associate about my What Color Is Your Brain? book in my customary "Lovely Blue Brain" tone of voice. He then asked me a question which I answered in my "Logical Green Brain" tone.

He immediate questioned, "Do I note a sense of anger or annoyance in your voice?"

"No," I replied. "My remark was factual. You are not accustomed to hearing my "Logical Green Brain" tone."

A few days later, I was attending my Women's Task Force Meeting for our Congresswoman, Melissa Bean . When the meeting began, I was purposefully listening. My Green Brain was focusing on the ideas and processing the discussion.

One of the women asked, "Are you OK? You are so quiet."

"I'm fine. I am just being Green," I said.

"I'm so used to your Blue, I was concerned there something was wrong." She responded.

Because both individuals and I "Speak Fluent Brain Color" there was level of comfort and understanding between us and we were able communicate clearly and not create misunderstands.

BEWARE: When your Brain Color tone of voice or what others perceive to be your "normal" Brain Color behavior changes, it can cause confusion. As a result, that confusion may be interpreted to be something that is not true and create a conflict.

To resolve a conflict easily and maintain harmony in your life...
Communicate in Brain Color!

Sheila N.

If "Green Brainers" are visiting a foreign country, they will learn to speak the language and study the guidebooks to become familiar with the culture and customs. They have a system for packing their suitcases and only pack the essentials.

"Green Brainers" like to stay in accommodations that can give them the privacy and/or the technology they require or desire. They do their research and impart detailed facts and figures to their traveling companions about points of interest on their journey, which they have located and downloaded into their navigational global positioning system (GPS).

Many families incorporate family reunions into their vacations. That mixture can be harmonious or hazardous. For the next four Mondays I will post Brain Color Clues to help you create more harmony, and avoid the hazards of visiting family members, at home or on the road.

Yellow Brainers arrange for well-planned vacations and reunions.

Today is the 5th Monday of the Month and I decided to share a Brian Color Conflict Resolution experience with you. My goal is to encourage you, as I did, to challenge yourself and change your Brain Color Perspective.

Yesterday, my friend and blog mentor, Karen Hanrahan and I had a blog brainstorming session. Karen is a "Blue Brainer." I affectionately call her "Caringrace" because she lives her life with care and grace, and generously offers both gifts to others.

Karen and I were discussing my blog and how I could increase my blog readership, reach out to others and share my Brain Colors with my readers. We discussed my enthusiasm for my What Color Is Your Brain? book and workshops.

Then, Karen suggested that I examine the diabetes community and my passion to offer educate, comfort and encourage to the adults, children and the families dealing with the challenges of diabetes. Our discussion touched my "Blue Heart!" "Caringrace's" gently escorted me from a place of discomfort to one of excitement and energy to share my experiences, knowledge and passion to help others, as my family and I have been helped. I am most grateful for "Caringrace's" encouragement!

Our "Blue Brainstorming" allowed me to develop a "Yellow Brain" Plan, use my "Green Brain" to process the information that made sense in my head and my heart, and experience my "Orange Brain" change to excitement about future blog posts. Now, I have a plan to write a weekly post relating to diabetes management, education, research, events, support and resources.

20 Million American have diabetes, and almost 1/3 of those individuals are undiagnosed.

The synchronicity of my decision was immediate. This morning, Jean Kroupa, BSN RN COHN-S/CM and the Director of Education for IAOHN (Illinois Association of Occupational Health Nurses) I had a conversation about my What Color Is Your Brain? Keynote Presentation for the IOHN Conference on October 2, 2008.

Jean and I have previously talked about my commitment to diabetes research and education, so I knew she would appreciate hearing about my decision to write more blog post about diabetes. Then, Jean, who works with truck drivers, told me..."if a truck driver is diagnosed with Type 1 insulin dependence, they are not no longer allowed to drive a truck... they lose their job."

I clearly understand the serious safety issue of a driver having a diabetic reaction and his or her judgment becoming impaired. They could be a danger to themselves and others. However, the information was still disturbing.

An American Diabetes Association Journal report states: "Addition to a life on the road, which limits dietary options and exercise opportunities, commercial truck drivers with diabetes face a complex and largely adverse regulatory environment. Drivers who work across state lines are subject to Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) guidelines.

Until recently, FMCSA regulations completely prohibited licensing of commercial interstate drivers who require insulin therapy. However, under recent legislation, FMCSA was mandated to consider exemptions for insulin-using commercial truck drivers who could demonstrate an ability to safely operate commercial motor vehicles, and, in September 2005, the first four waivers were granted."

She would pack the inside of her nest with mud, then hop inside and wiggle her body until she formed the appropriate shaped incubator for her eggs.

We faithfully watched her incubate her eggs, only leaving when she needed to nourish herself. A few weeks ago we delighted to the first "chirps of the hungry." At first, we could only see tiny translucent orange beaks, as Baby Robins, #1, #2 and #3 squealed for their "on demand" feedings. Soon their tiny "bad down day" head appeared.

We were entertained as their rubber-band necks began straining towards their parents in search of their plunging beaks, which were laden with worm formula and ready to drain their fill their babies' squawking funnels. This morning, I noticed that Mother Robbin could hardly fit on her customized nest.

As I was preparing to weed my vegetable garden, Mother and Father Robbin scolded me for treading near their citadel. Suddenly, both red breasted parents transformed themselves into WWII Stuka Junker German dive bombers. I ran for safety and began weeding my herb garden by hand. I scooped up my weeder and ran towards the upper deck stairs as Mother Robin began another "Stukda Attack."

I decided I needed a safer place to work and began cleaning the bird bath in my upper River Birch Tree Garden. About 10 minutes later, I heard a racket in our backyard. Watching from a safe distance I observed Mother Robin attempting to steer one of her fledging out of danger in center of our yard and toward the safety of the surrounding trees. That Baby Robin seemed to be confused or was an "Orange Bird Brain" and did not want to follow the rules. #1 was determined hop in the opposite direction.

It was captivating to watch Mother Robin patiently circle behind her baby and chirp "Yellow Bird Brain" instructions. Then she would give the baby some space to find its own way. However, if Baby Robin #1 ignored her and kept hopping in another direction, her chastising chirps alerted Father Robin to escort the baby towards its mother.

I observed Baby Robin #2 flitting across the backyard. When that fledgling landed on the on the lawn, Father Robin would swoop down and refuel his offspring with a mouthful of worms. Once refueled #2 continued his airborne adventures.

I was concerned about baby #3. However, to my delight I saw it strafing the grass, enjoying it's freedom and "getting air" from the winds gusts that were announcing an imminent rainstorm.

"Sheila Glazov, author, speaker, and educator entered my world passionately. I needed her example. Little did I know how much. It's one thing to find a new friend; one who has similar ideas about expression, one who's not afraid to laugh outloud, one who's not afraid to try new things, one who thinks in a way that isn't always about making the almighty dollar. One who gives back. It's another to be treated respectfully, treasured and to be revered. She gives me all of these things. It's so remarkable to me that we became so close and so connected, sometimes I have to pinch myself. She was honored to have this opportunity to post and called like 10 times to make sure she was on track - I felt like I was in HS with a giggly friend. She is all that and more. These words from her meant so very much as she wrote them, I know that because that's who she is - generous and ever so clever with her words and sentiment. In my heart all that she says means even more. She is truly treasured.

Amazingly the picture of the rose she shares below blossomed the day she was writing about me. It's such a beautiful photograph!"

Best “Bloggette-ing” Wishes for your 1st “Birth-blog-day!” I am honored and a thrilled to offer you my congratulations!

Once upon a time in January 2008…my friend Susie Duboe-Bryant, owner of Hinsdale Furriers, suggested that you call me about presenting a What Color Is Your Brain? ® Workshop and selling my new What Color Is Your Brain? book at the West Suburban Women Entrepreneurs (WSWE) February meeting.

After discussing the details of our agreement for the WSWE meeting, we continued our conversation as if we were overnight campers attending our reunion.

I quickly recognized your helpful and creative “Blue Brain” attributes. Then, our divergent thinking processes led us through a labyrinth, beginning with my Brain Colors, switch-backing to blogging, and an hour later, concluding with your gracious offer to help me find solutions to my digestive issues related to gluten and food allergies.

You generously shared your blog knowledge and suggested I contact blog consultants Michael Snell and Derrick Sorles . Then, you offered me information about two Shaklee products: Optiflora Probiotic Complex “my pearl” and EZ-Gest. “My Pearl” and EZ changed my life. No more brain or belly bloating!

You are a quintessential problem solver. “Thank You!” I am most grateful for the comfort and trust you offered for my Brain, my Blog and my Belly!

Each day, I look forward to your lyrical, educational, magical and (often) hysterically funny posts. Last month, I jotted a note on my calendar about you and your writing. It simply read: Caring and Grace. I was confident that the appropriate time to share those adjectives would appear.

Ta- Da! When you invited me to be a “Guest Author” for your blog, I addressed my reply message to “Car’n Grace.” You replied with an innovative revision “Caringrace.” Now, “Caringrace Hanrahan” resides in my email address book.

I chose this date, to contribute to your blog because it is personally and professionally significant to both of us. June 19th is the 1st delivery/birthday of my What Color Is Your Bran? books to my office. I am also celebrating the 1st birthday of your blog, which you write with Care and Grace, and your arrival into my life… A Double Delight!

“Caringrace,” I am extraordinarily proud of you and your accomplishments.

This morning, our family began our Father's Day celebration with a Skype phone call and web cam visit to our Glazov Gang in Sao Paulo. Our youngest son, Noah, granddaughter, Yasmin and daughter-in-law, Kelly, were preparing to travel to a Brazilian Cultural Festival. Brazilians do not celebrate Father's Day, today. However, we all enjoyed seeing one another and celebrating long distance.

Yasmin and Noah

My husband Jordan and I met our eldest son, Joshua, grandson, Ashton, and daughter-in-law, Sheryl, at our favorite breakfast restaurant, The White Alps in Lake Zurich. We feasted upon Ashton's 4 year old antics, omelets and pancakes and gifts.

Papa Jordy, Ashton and Joshua

My husband, "Papa Jordy," and I were thrilled to celebrate Father's Day with our sons and their families. What a delight to know that their families are thriving and they are enjoying fatherhood. One of the copious bonuses of grandparenthood is watching our children enjoy being parents and knowing that Joshua and Noah now realize how much we love them and understand the joys and challenges of parenthood.

Today, I'm also remembering Jordan's father, my other father, "Papa Joe" Glazov. I remember how excited I was when Joshua was born. I told one of the nurses, "Daddy will be so thrilled he has grandson to carry on his name." She said, "I'm sure your husband will be excited." "I don't mean my husband," I replied. "I mean my father-in-law!" I always joked with Jordan that I married him because I loved his father so much. I was twice blessed with two phenomenal fathers.

My father was in an inspiration and influence for other family members, friend and collegues, especially my husband, our sons and me. He passed away on March 30th, 1977. I vividly remember individuals at the funeral offering me their condolences and saying how sad they were about his passing. When I checked my books out I would proudly hand my card to the librarian.

This morning, I was reminiscing about the parades my parents took me to on Memorial Day. I remember sitting on the Lake Street curbside in River Forest, Illinois listening to the school and military marching bands, standing up and placing my hand over my heart when the American Flag passed by and watching the World War I WWI, World War II WWII and Korean Conflict veterans proudly march past us.

Memorial Day, originally called Decoration Day, is a day of remembrance for those who have died in our nation's service.

While thinking about writing my Weekly Orange Brain Color Clue, which would be the final May Teenage Brain post about the Orange Brainers, I thought about all the teenagers (and adults) who have served in the military. The young men and women who have bravely served our country in the past and continue to serve today.

It was during the War of 1812 that our national anthem “The Star-Spangled Banner" was born. It was poem written by Frances Scott Key in 1814. Then, on July 27, 1889, General Order #374 was signed by Secretary of the Navy Benjamin F. Tracy making "The Star-Spangled Banner" the official tune to be played when the American flag was raise.

The closing anthem lyrics “Land of the free and the home of the brave.” exemplify the Orange Brainer attributes and abilities of Courage and Risk-Taking.

I am grateful for the blessings of freedom and the opportunity to honor our brave American service men and women!
